Repair, replacement and exterior paint from one Chestnut Hill crew

Siding Contractors Serving Boston and Newton from Chestnut Hill

Looking for siding contractors near Boston, or a siding company that will come out for one bad wall? We are a Chestnut Hill crew: we fix loose vinyl, rotted cedar shingles and cracked clapboard, paint the wood we repair, and replace siding when a wall is past patching. Text a photo to (857) 245-9588 and you get a straight answer, repair or replace, before a truck rolls.

  • Repair first; a full replacement only when the wall calls for it
  • Text a photo first: repair or replace, answered before a visit
  • Same crew for vinyl, cedar shingle, clapboard, Hardie plank, metal and stucco
  • Exterior painting and clear coat of wood siding on the same job
  • Emergency service 24 hours a day when a storm opens a wall

Our base: 115 Grove St, Chestnut Hill

Our day starts at 115 Grove St, Chestnut Hill, MA 02467, where Newton meets Brookline. From here it is about 5–15 minutes to the other Newton villages, about 10 minutes to Brookline, about 15 minutes to Wellesley, Needham and Watertown, and about 10–20 minutes to West Roxbury, Roslindale and Jamaica Plain. A short drive matters on a siding job: a forgotten length of J-channel is a short run back, not a reason to reschedule. The homeowners we work for are spread across Newton, Boston, Dedham, Needham and the towns around them. Hours are 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM every day.

Repair or replace? How this siding company decides

Most of the phone calls are about one bad wall, not a whole house: a corner post that has pulled away, vinyl cracked where a ladder leaned on it, or cedar shingles under a window that the weather has opened up. That is a siding repair: we cut out the rot, replace the boards or shingles, prime, paint, and leave the rest of the house alone. The photo usually tells us whether it is one board or the whole wall.

Replacement is the second path: vinyl gone brittle across a whole south wall, or sheathing soft in more than one place. Then we talk about siding replacement and new installation: strip the old siding, check the sheathing, new housewrap and flashing, new material. We count walls before we say the word replace. For what moves the estimate, read how a siding estimate is built.

Materials we repair and install

When the roof edge, gutters or a window are part of the same problem, that side of the business is on other exterior services.

What a visit looks like

The first look happens on your phone, from the picture you text to (857) 245-9588. At the house we walk the whole exterior, not just the wall you called about: we press on the clapboard near the grade line and under the windows, pull back loose trim to look for rot, check the J-channel at the openings, and watch where the downspouts dump water against the siding. Then we show you what we found and put a free estimate in writing.

How it works

  1. Call, text or send a photo. Call or text (857) 245-9588 or use the free estimate form; tell us the town and what you see.
  2. We say repair or replacement. From your photo we say which path it looks like, and set a free visit if it needs eyes on the wall.
  3. Estimate and date. You get a free estimate; for a replacement we settle material, profile and color before we order.
  4. The work, then the walk-around. We cut out the rot, replace the siding, flash and seal the openings, prime and paint where it is wood, and haul away the old material. You walk the walls with us before we leave.

Reviews from Newton and Boston homeowners

Our reviews page collects what homeowners have said about the work.

Where we work

We cover Boston and about 30 miles around Chestnut Hill, and the calls closest to home are the most varied. Pre-war clapboard and cedar shingle houses in Newton and Brookline need carpentry and paint together; vinyl two-families and triple-deckers in West Roxbury, Roslindale and Dorchester need panels matched or one wall re-sided; capes in Wellesley and Needham are weighing tired cedar against Hardie plank. Every town’s drive time is on the service area page.

License, insurance, permits and old paint

In Boston a siding replacement can call for the city’s building permit; we go over that with you first. In a Newton or Brookline historic district, check with the town’s historical commission before the street side changes. When you are ready, call or text (857) 245-9588 with a photo of the wall, or get a free estimate through the form.

Questions homeowners ask

Will a siding company come out for one rotted corner board in Newton?

Yes. Corner boards rot from the bottom up where splash from the walk hits them, and swapping one is routine work for us. Send it the same way as a whole wall: a photo by text.

What makes a siding contractor say replace instead of repair?

Three things: the same failure on three or four sides of the house; vinyl that cracks at the lock the moment we lift a panel, which means the whole run is brittle; and no housewrap at all behind the siding on an older house. One of those is a conversation; two or three together is a replacement.

Can you match faded 1990s vinyl on a Boston two-family?

Often. We take a loose panel to the supplier to match profile and exposure, then hold the closest current color against the wall in daylight before ordering. If nothing is close enough, the better answer is to re-side that one wall corner to corner, so the only seam sits at an inside corner.

On a clapboard house in Brookline, who paints the new boards?

We do, on the same job. New clapboard goes in back-primed, the cut ends get primer before the board is nailed, and the finish paint is feathered into the boards on either side so the repair does not read as a rectangle. Cedar meant to stay natural gets a clear coat instead of paint.

Our Jamaica Plain house dates from the 1910s. What changes?

The inspection. Houses of that age hide rot behind the corner boards, at the sill line and under the window stools, so we open those spots before writing the estimate. Many have no housewrap, which changes how we flash the patch. The old corner boards are often wider than stock, so we build up the replacements to match rather than leave a step in the trim.

A nor'easter peeled vinyl off our Dorchester gable. What happens first?

Call (857) 245-9588; storm damage is covered by our 24-hour emergency service. Photograph the damage before anything is covered, if you can do it safely; your insurer will want the pictures. The emergency call-out is about keeping water out of the open wall, not about matching color; the matching panels and the permanent repair follow once the sheathing has dried.

Before I hire a siding company, what should I ask to see?

The warranty, in writing. And on a replacement, the product line going on the wall, because new siding also carries the manufacturer's limited warranty on the material.

The front of our house is cedar and the back is vinyl. Do you handle both?

Yes, with one crew. We repair the cedar face with matching shingles and paint or clear coat, replace cracked vinyl on the back with panels of the same profile, and re-flash the corner trim where the two systems join, the spot where mixed houses leak most. The estimate lists each side separately.
