Siding Repair & Replacement in Dedham & Westwood, MA
On the colonials and capes of Dedham and Westwood, siding repair usually means rot low on a clapboard wall, a corner board gone soft at the base, or vinyl cracked by a string trimmer. That is most of our work here; when a wall is past patching, we replace the siding instead. Our base in Chestnut Hill is about 15–20 minutes away.

Houses in Dedham and Westwood
Dedham and Westwood are towns of colonials and capes. Around Dedham Square and in Riverdale many houses predate the war: wood clapboard or cedar shingles, wide corner boards, trim painted a dozen times. In Islington and the rest of Westwood the stock is mostly post-war: capes and garrison colonials whose clapboard was covered with vinyl in the 1980s or 90s, plus newer colonials in fiber cement. We work with all of it, from cedar shakes to James Hardie plank.
What we fix most often here
- Rot in the bottom courses of clapboard behind foundation plantings.
- Corner boards soft at the base, with rot behind the trim.
- Cracked vinyl from a string trimmer or a ladder.
- Ice-dam damage: lifted siding under the eaves.
Wood and cedar: one crew cuts out the rot, replaces boards or shingles, primes and paints (wood and cedar siding repair and painting). Panels and J-channel: vinyl siding repair.
Repair or replace?
In these two towns the call is nearly always a repair. Damage on one wall, around one window or down one corner is a siding repair, and we say so as soon as we see the photo. If rot keeps turning up in new places, or the vinyl cracks wherever you press it, see siding replacement and new installation.
Permits and historic districts
A like-for-like repair normally needs no permit in Dedham or Westwood; re-siding the whole house normally does. The oldest streets around Dedham Square may sit in a local historic district; before changing siding material or trim there, check with the town’s historical commission.
How it works
- Call or text (857) 245-9588. A photo of the damage is enough to start.
- Free estimate on site. We probe the clapboard and the flashing, then write up the repair, or the replacement if the wall needs one.
- The repair. You get a start date before anything comes off the wall.
- Walk-through. We walk the house together, and the beds under the wall are raked clean.
Where in Dedham and Westwood
Riverdale and Dedham Square on the Dedham side, Islington and the rest of Westwood on the other: the drive to any of them from Chestnut Hill is about 15–20 minutes. Dedham and Needham are, with Newton and Boston, towns where we have worked for homeowners. The neighbors are close as well: Needham is about 15 minutes from our base, West Roxbury and Roslindale about 10–20 minutes, the Newton villages about 5–15 minutes; the full service area lists the rest.
Gutters, a roof repair or a window on the same house come under other exterior services.

Questions homeowners ask
My Westwood cape has vinyl over the original clapboard. Can you repair only the damaged section?
Yes. The first question is why it failed: on a cape it is usually below a window or at a dormer cheek, where flashing let water behind the vinyl, and we fix that before any new panel goes on. Vinyl from the 1980s and 90s is often a profile no longer made, so we show you the patch line before we order.
The corner boards on my colonial near Dedham Square are soft at the bottom. Is that a big job?
Usually not. We pull the board, cut back the rotted clapboard ends, let the sheathing dry, and set a new back-primed board with flashing at the base. If the sheathing has gone too, we stop and show you first.
Is one split clapboard on a Westwood garrison too small a job for you?
No. The word repair is in our name for a reason: one board, one blown-off panel or one rotted sill is a normal call.
Can you quote a Dedham repair from photos, or do you have to come out?
For a small repair, photos with your street name are usually enough; for a corner, a wall or anything with rot behind it we come out and put the estimate in writing. Both are free.
